Psychosocial program PRO_MentalHealth Ukraine
In response to the rapidly growing needs of the Ukrainian people for psychological and social support in overcoming the negative consequences of the war, the leadership of the International Solidarity Fund (Republic of Poland) initiated the creation of a project in 2023 to provide psychosocial assistance to those in need: war veterans, Defenders and Defendresses, members of their families and families of the fallen, individuals who have been injured, held captive, or lived under occupation, internally displaced persons, as well as civilians who have experienced traumatic events.
Given the critical need for professional rehabilitation and adaptation to civilian life for war veterans, and with financial support from the European Commission, the Polish State Development Bank (Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego), and the “Support for Democracy” program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, a pilot project, “Psychosocial Support in Ukraine” (PRO_MentalHealth), has been established. Its goal is to develop and pilot a model for providing psychosocial services to affected populations at the local and district levels in the Rivne region.
As part of the PRO_MentalHealth Project, 4 psychosocial support centers have been established (one in each district), with operations based on multidisciplinary teams consisting of a psychiatrist and three psychologists. A distinctive feature of these teams is their ability to provide services both on-site and through mobile outreach to meet the needs of people in remote settlements within the districts. It is anticipated that the range of services offered by the Centers will gradually expand from psychological assistance to other areas, depending on the results of needs assessments and sources of combined funding.
